The Need
The
Child Safety Research & Innovation Center (CSRIC) is a not-for-profit organization that was formed to prevent the injury,
exploitation, and victimization of children and families. CSRIC is committed to being a community partner in child safety
through innovation, education and prevention.
The Solution
Education
and awareness are the best tools that we can provide for our children to help them defend against sexual abuse and abduction. A child who has knowledge and experience with "what to do" in particular situations
is best equipped to make good decisions to keep themselves safe.
Street
proofing is a concept designed to assist children in identifying and reacting to suspicious or dangerous circumstances. The
key words here are identify and react. Teaching your child to identify
a problem is pointless if he or she does not know how to react to it. Similarly,
your child cannot be expected to react if he or she is unable to identify a potential problem situation.
